Bright Lights in The City

Hi folks

I’m pleased to see that, despite the energy crisis, we are still going ahead with the Christmas lights this year. Kingdom FM will be amongst other organisations providing the entertainment on Sunday 20th with the big switch on at 5pm.

I think these civic events are very important to our mental well being at this time of the year where the days become so short and the cold weather begins to bite. I just hope they have a better tree this year. Last year’s effort was a bit peely-wally to say the least!

At Visit Dunfermline we like to highlight the achievements of our citizens young and old.

This year we’ve written about the likes of Niamh Mitchell in boxing and Caroline Weir in football but today I’d like to give a shout out to young Lewis Akers from Dunfermline.

A former pupil of St Columba’s High School Lewis recently won Young Trade Unionist of The Year from the TUC. We wish him all the best in his chosen career path and knowing him as I do, his passion for working hard towards a fairer society is certainly not in doubt.

I’ve been busy working a couple of big events planned for next year. These events should bring attention to our city and hopefully some much needed economic benefits.

I won’t say too much more at this stage but will certainly be in a position to reveal more in a few weeks...

I was also encouraged after finding out more about The Council’s plans to make the most of our new city status when attending our local LTA meeting on Tuesday. Hopefully this will be communicated to the public soon as I sense a lot of frustration out there.

Until next time…
